- We brew locally roasted organic, fair trade, and shade grown coffee.
- Source all our milk from local suppliers, buy all of our fresh foods and baked goods from local purveyors, and use organic ingredients when possble.
- Use almost exclusively compostable and biodegradable paper goods including:
- PLA (A compostable plastic made 100% from corn) cold cups, straws, lids, and soufflé cups
- PLA-lined hot cups (most hot cups have a petroleum-based liner!)
- Potato starch disposable knives, forks, and spoons
- We donate all of our coffee grinds to local farms and school programs for compost.
- We donate all day-old pastries to a local food pantry.
- Our stores recycle paper, cardboard, milk jugs, and bottles.
- Our cleaning products are all eco-friendly and biodegradable.

- We offer a $.25 discount to customers who bring their own mug, which cuts down on waste. We also sell a travel mug made from 100% USA corn.
- Our 300 Thayer Street, Providence store is powered with 100% local wind power through the New England Wind Fund.
- We host speakers to educate community members on steps they can take to reduce their impact on the environment.
- We advise local businesses that want to switch to eco-friendly alternatives and set up recycling/composting programs.
- We are developing an espresso/coffee truck powered by local, renewable energy — and possibly coffee grounds!
Additionally Blue State Coffee donates 5% of every sale to progressive charities. This allows us to make an immediate and direct contribution to worthy causes around the country and in our local community.
