Besides providing our customers with the freshest, most ecologically sound, and tastiest cup of Joe, we are proud to be able to donate a portion of our sales every quarter to progressive local and national causes that we believe in. We currently are donating 10% of every purchase made in-store and on this website.

During the months of January through March we were able to donate another $10,000 to the following important organizations:

We have now donated over $40,000 since we starting selling coffee in September of 2006!

Thank you for your support, these organizations appreciate it.

Our Earth Day and CD release party at the Blackstone is going green!

This coming Saturday, April 19th Blue State Coffee is co-hosting an earth day/CD release party at the Blackstone in Pawtucket, RI. We were able to purchase energy credits through People’s Power and Light so we can run the entire event on New England wind power!

Several bands from the CD (you can check it out and listen to it here) will be performing as well as a couple guest artists. We will have copies of the CD for sale and several local environmental organizations will be on hand to tell you about their important work.

You can find directions to the Blackstone here.

Hope to see you there!

Blue State Records releases “A State Of Blue” CD

We are very proud to announce the release of our first CD- A State of Blue!

A State of Blue is a compilation CD to benefit the Fund for Community Progress, a Rhode Island not-for-profit federation that raises funds for its 26 local member agencies.

Each of the 11 tracks on the CD is from a different Rhode Island band- offering a slice of local rock from the 80’s, 90’s and today.

The Providence Phoenix gave us a nice write up in their most recent issue- read it here.

It is available for purchase on our website, at our store on 300 Thayer Street and several music stores in the Providence area.

We will soon have a CD page up on our website were you will be able to samples from the CD- check back soon!

Upcoming Events at 300 Thayer!

In the next couple weeks there are two exciting lecture/discussions to check out at our store.

This Thursday January 31st at 7PM there will be a lecture by Paul Tieger, founder and CEO of SpeedReading People.
Mr. Tieger will be discussing “The X factor in the 2008 Presidential election”, examining the personality types of the various leading candidates and how it affects their campaign for the presidency.

Then on February 6th at 730PM we are holding the rescheduled lecture by the Green Grease Monkeys. They will be talking about converting cars to run off of waste veggie oil. We are expecting a good crowd for this event so show up early!

Blue State Coffee on google streetview

Google last week released an addition to their popular google maps program. Approximately 15 US cities now have street level images as seen from the roofrack of a google car that has been driving around U.S. cities.

Providence is lucky enough to be one of the first cities to have this feature released- so you can now visit Blue State Coffee at 300 Thayer St. in Providence and see exactly what our store looks like (well, exactly what it looked like in the middle of summer, we wish it was sunny and there was not a foot of snow outside the store right now…).

So just head on over to maps.google.com, type in “300 Thayer Street, Providence, RI 02906″, click on streetview, then click on the little yellow icon of a man and voila!

I am not going to get into the potential privacy issues that this raises- for now I will remain blissfully content to virtually wander the streets of Providence and imagine that it is summer and 80 degrees again!

Happy Holidays.
