New Causes!

We’ve tallied our customers’ votes! In New Haven, we’ll be supporting the CT Center for a New Economy, Elmseed, the New Haven Arts & Ideas Festival, and the CT Fund for the Environment. At the College Hill Cafe in the Brown Bookstore, we’ll be supporting Books are Wings, the Capital Good Fund, Crossroads Shelter, and the RI Chapter of the National MS Society.

At 300 Thayer, we’re adding a fifth cause: Marriage Equality RI.

Thanks to our customers for suggesting these wonderful and worthwhile causes. We’re so proud to be supporting them.

New Haven – New Cause Suggestions?

Blue State Coffee New Haven is now open for suggested causes we will support next quarter.  As always, each Blue State Coffee location donates 5% of every sale to great organizations supporting its local community.  The fiscal quarter starts soon, so, please, come into the store, make a purchase and suggest our next four great causes to support.

L.E.A.P. support’s Julia’s Run

LEAP is collaborating on Julia’s Run which is being held on Yale’s Cross Campus this Sunday, March 29th. Julia’s Run celebrates the life of a Yale student who died of an undetected heart disease in 1999. The race celebrates her two passions for running and children by giving proceeds from the race to LEAP. For more information on Julia’s Run, click here.

L.E.A.P.’s mission is to develop the strengths and talents of young leaders who implement year round, community based programming designed to achieve positive academic and social outcomes for children living in high poverty urban neighborhoods.  For more information, click here.

Holy Joe’s Cafe

A few weeks ago I read an article in the New Haven Register about Holy Joe’s Cafe, a project of the First Congregational Church in Wallingford, CT. Since 2006, Holy Joe’s has collected and shipped over 105 tons of coffee to our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. Donations come from individuals, corporations, churches, and other institutions.

Blue State Coffee is proud to support Holy Joe’s Cafe. Our New Haven store will make regular donations.

If you would like to support this extraordinarily important cause, please download the Holy Joe’s brochure here.

All of us, in our day-to-day lives, enjoy the benefits of a good cup of coffee. Let’s do our part to extend that experience to our troops.

Voting results are in for our first round of donations!

On March 31st we closed customer voting on our first group of four excellent causes.

Results are as follows:

National Even Start Association- 32.7%
Democratic Candidates and Organizations- 27.1%
World Resources Institute- 21.1%
Disabled American Veterans- 19.1%

Congratulations to all of our recipients and keep up the good work that you are doing!
As a new company we do not yet have profits to speak of, however we are dedicated to our mission of donating to progressive causes. This quarter we have decided to split $5,000 amongst the four causes according to how you all voted.

You can read about our next group of causes to vote for on our causes page.

Branson pledges billions to Clinton Global Initiative

Another reason to love Richard Branson (as if bringing us Culture Club and The Rebel Billionaire weren’t enough):

“Our generation has inherited an incredibly beautiful world from our parents and they from their parents. We must not be the generation responsible for irreversibly damaging the environment. We must hand it over to our children in as near pristine a condition as we were lent it from our parents.”
