Kal Penn talks at Blue State Coffee

Kal Penn (actor from The Namesake, Harold and Kumar, 24, House, and much more) stopped by Blue State Coffee yesterday February 28th, 2008 to talk on behalf of Barack Obama. He spoke to a very packed house for about 15 minutes then gave a lengthy Q and A session.

It was great to hear him talk about how he was moved to take action as a citizen, not because he was a celebrity or and actor, but because he really cared about the message that Barack was bringing.

You can check out a 2 minute excerpt from his talk by clicking here.

FYI- President Clinton is giving a talk this afternoon in Providence, and tomorrow Obama will be holding a rally at RIC midday. It is neat to be in the political spotlight here in RI for a few days!

And please vote.

A State of Blue

Hello comrades in blue! I just wanted to add a few thoughts to Alex’s previous post about the new CD. Providence has had a long history of being on the edge of the arts and music nationwide. Although we have this reputation many of the specific artists and groups have remained under the national radar. On A State of Blue we offer you a glimpse into a slice of this history. Rash of Stabbings was signed to Rough Trade records in the late 80’s-early 90’s. Verbal Assault was one of the largest and most influential hardcore bands of the 80’s worldwide!
So if you’re from another region please take this opportunity to check out the music scene that has surrounded the city that has given birth to the first Blue State Coffee store. You can check the bands out on the listening window in the CD purchase frame. We look forward to you listening and supporting this worthy cause.

Blue State Records releases “A State Of Blue” CD

We are very proud to announce the release of our first CD- A State of Blue!

A State of Blue is a compilation CD to benefit the Fund for Community Progress, a Rhode Island not-for-profit federation that raises funds for its 26 local member agencies.

Each of the 11 tracks on the CD is from a different Rhode Island band- offering a slice of local rock from the 80’s, 90’s and today.

The Providence Phoenix gave us a nice write up in their most recent issue- read it here.

It is available for purchase on our website, at our store on 300 Thayer Street and several music stores in the Providence area.

We will soon have a CD page up on our website were you will be able to samples from the CD- check back soon!

“Yes we can” music video

This election year has such potential. Two candidates who just don’t look like the last 43 US presidents for some reason- both promising the change that our country so desperately needs.

Whether or not a single person can actually do half the change they promise(I pray to god they can), this election will be one for the history books.

Check out this music video produced by the front man for the Black Eyed Peas- whether or not you are an Obama fan- I think you will find it quite inspirational. If someone has a similar production for Hillary- please let us know- we will post it up here right away!

Happy Primary watching!
