We have been a little quiet as of late on our blog, due to the high level of activity required in setting up our first retail store.
We should be open in just over a week at 300 Thayer Street in Providence, RI!
We will let you know as soon as we are officially open, in the meantime here is an interior shot of our close-to-finished shop (note the beautiful La Marzocco espresso machine!)

I think the title really says it all.
Those of you who are familiar with the Darwin Awards may have heard of something similar a few years ago when someone flew their lawn chair into the flight path of LAX, evidently it still holds an appeal to some…
Kent Couch decided to go flying last weekend. In his lawn chair.

Just got back from an incredible trip to Greece, and besides feeling generally recharged (wish Americans could embrace the concept of siestas!), it was fascinating to walk through the ancient agora in Athens and think for a moment about what it must have been like to participate in politics back then. How revolutionary this concept of giving citizens a direct vote on every issue and piece of legislation must have been. (Of course, their definition of “citizenship” would have excluded me and many… but for the time, it was revolutionarily inclusive).
Can we even imagine that level of civic involvement? Of course, direct democracy could never work on our massive scale, but I found it inspiring to think that voters were that involved in and impassioned about their own governance.
Sure puts our voter turnout to shame.

Happy Independence Day, from all of us at Blue State Coffee. On this day, 231 years ago, the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, promising to all Americans “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

This is the most any Democratic candidate has ever raised in a quarter. Anyone who says the senator is “unelectable” has just been proven wrong, I think.
However, according to the six most recent polls, he still trails Hillary by at least 10% for the Democratic nomination. Hillary’s campaign expects to have raised about $27 million this quarter.
Both Hillary and Obama are beating Giuliani, the Republican front-runner, by several percentage points.
Read more analysis of Obama’s fundraising success here.
