Ann Coulter does it again…

She referred to Presidential candidate John Edwards as a “faggot” at the Conservative Political Action Conference. (Edwards is married and has three children.) Also, at the same conference Coulter said, “I don’t know why all gays aren’t Republican. I think we have the pro-gay positions, which is anti-crime and for tax cuts. Gays make a lot of money and they’re victims of crime. No, they are! They should be with us.”

We expect this kind of juvenile name-calling from Coulter. What’s worse, though, is that her comments were met with applause from the audience.

Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy, and other Democrats hit back hard, calling on Coulter and the Republican leaders to denounce the remarks.

Coulter defended her comments by saying, “C’mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean.”

Let’s hope this isn’t an indication of the Republican mud-slinging to come in the next 600+ days before the Presidential election.

The only reasons Coulter has a following are her looks and the vile rhetoric that she constantly spews. It’s good that Romney disavowed these comments (see this article), but he shouldn’t be accepting an endorsement from someone who makes comments like this. Coulter has no place in today’s political discourse.
